U.S. Seizes Iranian Oil On A Russian Ship Off The Coast of Greece

The cargo will be sent to the Untied States on another ship, states sources close to the investigation. Both countries, Iran and Russia face sanctions from the United States, so at this point there is no clear indication if the oil was seized as a result of the oil being Iranian or Russian sanctions.

On February 22nd, prior to the war in Ukraine beginning, There were 5 sea going vessels designated for sanctions by the United States on a bank which is vital to Russian defense called Promsvyazbank. The owner of the vessels also had sanctions placed on him on May 8th.

One of the ships which was renamed March 1st to avoid sanctions and flying the Iranian flag, has been parked off the coast of Greece since.
