Although Russia has claimed that the bodies in Bucha appeared on the streets after Russian forces withdrew from the area, high-resolution satellite images from Maxar Technologies show that the bodies were lying in the streets for weeks, which shows that the claims by Russia are false.
Aside from the satellite images, there were many other indications that the bodies were lying there for weeks. One of the images shows a man lying next to a bag of potatoes he had been carrying when he was shot. The potatoes looked to be weeks old. Other photos showed that the bodies had been decaying for weeks before they were finally found.
Russia however, had claimed that the bodies appeared on the streets after "all Russian units withdrew completely from Bucha", which was around March 30th.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to reporters on Monday while visiting the town saying, "What has been done to this modern town is a characteristic of the Russian military, which treated humans worse than animals".
The Russian Defense Ministry put out a statement saying that the photos are just "another hoax" and "just another provocation" on Sunday and wanted to meet with the United Nations Security Council about "provocations of Ukrainian radicals" in Bucha, Ukraine.
Part of the statement by the Russian Defense Ministry stated, "During the time that the town has been under the control of the Russian armed forces, not a single local resident has suffered from any violent action. Russian servicemen have delivered and distributed 452 tonnes of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Kyiv Region".
