Russian push into Donetsk circumvented thus far, Kyiv reports

Ukraine has foiled and frustrated the attempts thus far the Russian drive into the northern Donetsk territory. The city of Sloviansk has been hit hard by Russian ordinance Ukrainian officers have stated to the public.

Russian and dissident envoys were already in command of the southern part of Donetsk province when they largely took control of the bordering Luhansk suburb on Sunday and secured Lysychansk, much of which now lies in tatters.

Moscow says fully pushing the Ukrainian military out of both areas is centrifugal to what it refers to as its "special military operation" to establish its own security, a more than four-month-long assault that the West calls a "needless" war.

Donetsk and Luhansk territories make up the Donbas, the eastern, business and commercial enterprise area of Ukraine that has become the largest battleground in Europe not witnessed before in ages and over which Russia wants to seize control for the separationists it backs.

Vadym Lyakh; the mayor of Sloviansk said 17 residents had been killed and 67 injured since President Vladimir Putin sent his troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24. Its pre-conflict population of more than 100,000 had diminished to around 23,000 people, he added, and more and more people wanted to exit because of the bombardment.

Russia has since before denied it targets civilians.
