Russia Says They Have Received No Requests About US Mercenaries

The Russian embassy in Washington says that they have received no requests from the United States regarding two "US mercenaries" reported to have been captured in Ukraine.

Russian state news TASS reported that US Department of State spokesperson Ned Price had stated on Tuesday that the US administration has been "in touch with Russian authorities regarding U.S. citizens who may have been captured while fighting in Ukraine".

Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said that "There were no requests to the embassy. I do not confirm receiving a request of this kind from the US side".

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov spoke to journalists Tuesday and said that the two Americans that had been captured recently in Donbas are being accused of mercenarism and are, therefore "not subject to the Geneva Convention".

He also said that the captured Americans "should be investigated and they should be brought to justice". TASS noted that he did not count out the possibility that the court would sentence them to "capital punishment", also known as the death penalty.
