The Russian Investigative Committee, Russia's main investigative authority said on Saturday that it is now looking into a report by Russian state media that alleged that British SAS special forces or 'sabotage' experts have been deployed in the western region of Lviv, Ukraine.

The Investigative Committee says that it will be looking into whether the media report by RIA Novosti alleging that the British SAS has been sent into Ukraine to "assist the Ukrainian special services in organizing sabotage on the territory of Ukraine" is true.

RIA had stated that a security source said that 20 members of the British SAS Special Forces had been deployed in the western Lviv region, close to the border with Poland.

Sky News quoted a British defense source who reportedly said, "We don't comment on stories around special forces, especially ones that are being pushed out by the Russian news agencies, because inaccurate speculation can put people's lives at risk, which is why we neither confirm nor deny reports."
