North Korea Accuses US Of Creating "Asia-Style NATO" To Overthrow Its Leader

The North Korean government has accused the United States of creating an "Asia-Style NATO" in order to overthrow the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un on Sunday pointing to the military cooperation between the US, Japan, and South Korea.

North Korea's foreign ministry put out a statement saying "While blatantly holding joint military exercises with Japan and South Korea, the United States is making a full-fledged move to establish an Asia-style NATO".

The statement went on to say that "This proves the hypocrisy of the U.S. rhetoric of 'diplomatic engagement' and ‘dialogue without preconditions,’ while at the same time revealing again that there is no change in the U.S. ambition to overthrow our system by force".

It also said that this makes them feel "the need to make all-out efforts to develop even stronger power to be able to subdue all kinds of hostile acts by the United States".
China has also made similar complaints about the Quad alliance between the United States, Japan, Australia, and India, calling it an "Asian NATO".
While the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a military alliance, however, the Quad alliance is said to be economic cooperation, and not a military alliance, such as the case with the military cooperation shared by members of the NATO alliance.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan had previously commented on this saying, "The Quad is not a military alliance; it’s not a new NATO, despite some of the propaganda that’s out there".

"What it is, is an opportunity for these four democracies to work as a group, and also with other countries, on fundamental issues of economics, technology, climate, and security" he had added.
