In the process of an emergency landing after completing an in-flight refuel, an Ilyushin IL-76 military transport has crashed and engulfed in flames, near Ryazan in western Russia. There were 9 souls on board, 4 are reported dead, and 5 have been hospitalized, says RIA news agency.
Interfax news has reported out from the Russian Defense Ministry as saying the plane incurred an engine malfunction while on a training flight; However, the ministry did not give any details on the flight crew.
The Ilyushin-76 was en-route to Ukraine before it became disabled. It took off from Orenburg and was headed to Belgorod, close to the war zone when it crashed.
Belgorod is the capital of a Russian region bordering Ukraine.
