China Expresses "Serious Concern" And "Resolute Protest" Regarding NATO's New Strategic Concept

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao Lijian on Thursday expressed "serious concern" and "resolute protest" on behalf of the CCP regarding NATO's new 'Strategic Concept', saying that it ignores facts, distorts the truth, and vilifies China's foreign policy.

"The so-called NATO’s new Strategic Concept ignores facts, distorts the truth, vilifies China's foreign policy, makes irresponsible statements about China’s natural military development and its national defense policy, promotes confrontation and conflict, it is filled with the Cold War mentality and ideological prejudices", he stated.

"China expresses serious concern and resolute protest over this", claiming that China has always strived for global peace, defended the international order, and facilitated global development.

He also claimed that China has never invaded another country, or joined or formed any military blocs, always following the path of peaceful development.

Wednesday, during the Madrid summit, NATO alliance leaders had approved the new Strategic Concept which declares that the Russian Federation is the most significant threat to the security of NATO Allies, and also gave China a mention for the first time in the history of the Alliance.
