USINDOPACOM: North Korea Carried Out Multiple Ballistic Missile Launches

USINDOPACOM has put out a statement saying that they are aware that North Korea has carried out multiple ballistic missile launches, but that it does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to that of allies.

The statement by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said, "CAMP H.M, SMITH, Hawaii -- We are aware of the multiple DPRK ballistic missile launches today and are assessing and consulting closely with our allies and partners. While this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory, or to our allies, the missile launches highlight the destabilizing impact of the DPRK’s illicit weapons program. The U.S. commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad".

The South Korean government said that the three weapons that had been fired by North Korea included a suspected ICBM and two short-range ballistic missiles.

A statement put out by the South Korean government said, "North Korea’s sustained provocations can only result in stronger and faster South Korea-U.S. combined deterrence and can only deepen North Korea’s international isolation".

"(Our) government is maintaining constant readiness to strongly and effectively respond to any kind of North Korean provocation" the statement continued.

Japan's Coast Guard also reported that there had been a suspected ballistic missile launch by North Korea.
