Washington is sending another $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, including howitzers, High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) ammunition, and harpoon coastal defense systems. Germany is also sending MLRS systems. This will be the 12th shipment of military equipment from the United States Department of Defense to Ukraine since August 2021. The shipment will include 18 155mm Howitzers, 36,000 rounds of 155mm ammunition, 18 tactics vehicles capable of towing the 155mm Howitzers, and more ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), Four Tactical Vehicles that will be used to recover equipment, and spare parts. Under the USAI, the Department of Defense will be providing Ukraine with near-term priority capabilities in order to defend against Russian attacks. The package includes two Harpoon coastal defense systems, thousands of secure radios, thousands of night vision devices, thermal sights, and other optics, and funding for training, maintenance, sustainment, transportation, and administrative costs. Germany will also be sending three Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) and Slovaks will be sending Mi-17s. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated during a press conference in Brussels that "General Milley and I have been in a number of fights. And when you’re in a fight, you can never get enough. I certainly understand where the Ukrainians are coming from, and we’re gonna fight hard to give them everything they need".
