Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) has put out a statement saying that the U.S. base in eastern Syria had been infiltrated last week and a bomb was planted that injured 4 U.S. service personnel.
The attack was carried out on the Green Village base that the OIR had previously said had been hit with indirect fire weapons, but was actually an explosive device planted by one or more infiltrators.
"On April 7, Combined Joint Task Force – Inherent Resolve officials announced an indirect fire attack on Green Village in eastern Syria. Upon further investigation, OIR officials assess the explosions in Green Village were not the result of indirect fire but rather the deliberate placement of explosive charges by an unidentified individual(s) at an ammunition holding area and shower facility", the task force stated.
It is not yet clear who carried out the attacks on the base.
