Tinian International Airport Expansion For U.S. Military In Case of Crisis

There is major expansion going on at the Tinian International Airport on the Mariana Islands. Right now, U.S. Military Forces operate out of Anderson Air Force Base in Guam. What if this base was hit in an attack by the Chinese?

For more than decade now, there have been plans in the making to expand the Tinian International Airport to be utilized as an alternative to Anderson Air Force Base, in the event of a crisis.

Below is an image provided by soar.earth, utilizing the Sentinel Hub Satellites to gain pictures and see the expansion taking place.

You can see the construction taking hold, above the runway. This will include aircraft parking, new taxiways, fuel storage, and a pipe-line linkage to the airport, first realized in 2010 along with expansion on Saipan as part of the environmental impact assessments.

This is not the first time that Tinian has been eyed by the U.S. military. Not far from Tinian International is the North Field where B-29s took off during World War 2. There is a long history there with the U.S. military and the area is already being used for air training during operations such as Valiant Shield.
