A military outpost in Pakistan was attacked which left three military personnel dead. The assault happened on a military installation in the North Waziristan region, a mountainous area of Northwest Pakistan.

It is not yet clear which one of the militant groups in Afghanistan carried out the attack on the Pakistani military outpost. On April 16th however, Taliban authorities had summoned Pakistan's ambassador in protest of strikes in Afghanistan by Pakistani forces according to the Afghan foreign ministry.
Reuters had stated that on April 16th, a local Taliban official, as well as residents in the area had said 36 people were killed in airstrikes by Pakistani aircraft which had entered into Afghan airspace. Pakistan however, denied carrying out any strikes at all.
A statement at the time was released by Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoting acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, "Military violations including those in Khost and Kunar must be prevented as such acts deteriorate relations ... allowing antagonists to misuse the situation leading to undesired consequences".
Mohammad Raes Helal, a local Taliban leader in Khost, Mawlawi in Afghanistan had said that two districts were bombed by Pakistani helicopters and that 36 people had been killed. This was denied by the Pakistani embassy. No official confirmation of the death toll had been made.
