On Tuesday Sweden formally signed its request to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), one day after it had announced the intention to join the alliance. Finnish lawmakers are expected to also formally endorse the decision by the leaders in Finland to join the NATO alliance. The majority of the members of the NATO alliance have openly supported the two countries joining the alliance, but Turkey has thrown a wrench in the process by saying that they will not be allowing them to join. Turkey has blocked the bid due to their belief that both Finland and Sweden are supporting the PKK and YPG Kurdish groups which Turkey considers terrorist organizations. For a country to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, all NATO members must be in agreement so that the requesting country may be allowed into the alliance. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Finland and Sweden are refusing to extradite what it calls 'terrorists' that are currently wanted by Turkey.
