Sri Lanka's Economy Has Collapsed Says Its Prime Minister

Amidst pleas to international leaders, Sri Lanka's economy has totally collapsed says the prime minister of Sri Lanka, Ramil Wichremesignhe. For months now, Sri Lanka has been going through shortages of food, electricity, and fuel.

"a far more serious situation than shortages alone; our economy has totally collapsed." - Ramil Wichremesignhe, Prime Minister Sri Lanka

The economy in Sri Lanka is weighted underneath an extremely heavy debt amid issues with a loss of tourism, which is a lingering effect, left over from the pandemic. Inflation has also set in at a quite intensely staggering rate. The country is headed towards total bankruptcy and doesn't have money for basic needs such as food, gasoline, and toilet paper.

Lawmakers are protesting parliament in Sri Lanka, in an effort to boycott the prime minister and the current government, whom they say hasn't delivered on their pledges to turn the countries economy around.
