Russian military official has claimed that the United States is preparing 'provocations' so that it can accuse Russia of using weapons of mass destruction.

Russian state news TASS said that Igor Kirlov alleged that the U.S. plan was in response to the "successes" that Russian troops have had during their 'special operation' in Ukraine.

Kirlov said, "The Russian Defense Ministry has information that the United States is preparing provocations to accuse the Russian Armed Forces of using chemical, biological, or tactical nuclear weapons. This plan has already been developed and is a reaction to Russia's successes in conducting the special military operation".

He also said that "in 2022 alone, at the request of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, more than 220,000 ampoules with atropine were delivered from the United States". Atropine is used to treat certain types of poison and nerve agents.

He said that the United States has concocted at least three scenarios in order to accuse Russia, including alleged provocations in Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Zaporizhzhia where a nuclear plant is located, according to Russian state news Sputnik.

Kirillov heads the Russian army's radiation and chemical/biological defense forces and said that since the war started in Ukraine, western leaders "regularly make provocative statements about the possibility of Russia using weapons of mass destruction".

Kirillov claimed that the United States is using the same playbook it used in the Iraq War that began in 2003 when Colin Powell, the Secretary of State at the time came up with "a test tube with washing powder" and said that it was used as 'a pretext for the invasion of Iraq' that resulted in the death of nearly half a million citizens.

"For chemical incidents, the attribution mechanism of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons will be used to fabricate the necessary evidence and name the perpetrators, as has already been repeatedly implemented in the investigations into the chemical incidents in Syria" Kirillov stated.

"The mechanism for investigating the possible use of biological weapons will be activated with the sanction of the UN secretary-general, who determines the composition of the expert group based on his own preferences" he added.

The Russian military also claimed that they detected three drones in the Kherson region on March 9th loaded with 30-liter canisters and spraying agent equipment which they have alleged indicates Ukraine's intent to use biological weapons.

As always, take what state news outlets and military officials say with a grain of salt, and carefully consider what is being said. Especially during wartime.
