ZAPORIZHZHIA - The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that Ukraine poisoned Russian soldiers in the southeast portion of Zaporizhzhia. However, Kyiv has responded and denied the allegations, stating any number of things could've poisoned the soldiers.
The soldiers, who were taken to a military hospital on July 31st, were showing severe symptoms. The toxic substance, botulinum toxin type B, was found, after running tests.
Russia did not specify how many soldiers were suffering with the condition of food poisoning.
Botulinum toxin type B is a neurotoxin protein, which is produced through the fermentation process of clostridium botulinum type B, which has contaminated old food, prior to being consumed. However, it is manufactured in labs for medical uses.
A response was not immediate from Kyiv, but the Ukrainian Defense Ministry advisor, Anton Gerashchenko did respond to the allegations on his Telegram Channel. Its response is as follows:
According to Reuters, Volodymyr Saldo, Russian-backed leader in Kherson, has also began to show symptoms of being ill. The Kremlin has stated that it is conducting additional investigations into his illness, to understand if its related. Volodymyr Saldo, who was installed in Kherson in March with the provisional administration, has became ill in early August.
The Defense Ministry in Russia has stated that it will give all findings to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
