Russia Test-Fires: RS-28 Sarmat (Satan II) ICBM

Russia has test-fired the RS-28 Sarmat (SATAN II) intercontinental ballistic missile, a liquid-fueled MIRV-equipped ICBM capable of carrying 10 to 15 18-25 megaton nuclear warheads that can each target a different location within the United States and is believed to have the ability to evade missile defense systems.

A report by the EurAsian times stated, "Individual warheads would strike distinct targets within a very limited ballistic ‘footprint,’ or many warheads from the same missile would strike the same target, increasing the likelihood of destroying that target completely".

The missile can be shot into orbit and each of the 10 to 15 hypersonic glide missiles that the missile releases can each target separate locations. Being hypersonic, they would be able to avoid detection by modern missile defense systems.

Each missile released by the RS-28 is said to have enough nuclear payload to completely wipe out an area the size of Texas for France, thus making the Satan II potentially the most powerful ICBM in the world.
