KREMLIN - On Thursday, September 1st, Russia initiated the Vostok 2022 exercise. Being held in the far east of Russia and the Sea of Japan, The wargames are intended to demonstrate to western countries that Russia still has enough military to hold these massive exercises while it is still engaged in Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry says that the exercises will use 50,000 troops, 60 warships, 140 aircraft, and 5000+ weapons, and will last until September 7th.
AP News says the exercises will be commanded by General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, who will be commander of troops from several ex-Soviet countries, Syria, Nicaragua, Mongolia, Laos, India, and China.
In the Sea of Japan, the Chinese and Russian naval forces will practice the protection of maritime economic traffic, support for ground forces, and the protection of sea communication systems, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The drills present the increasing cooperation between The Russian Federation and China, which continues to grow stronger daily.
In an official statement, the Russian Defense Ministry stated:
China's unwillingness to criticize and sanction Russia in regard to its "special military operation" in Ukraine and its actions in providing markets for Russian goods to avoid sanctioning are just a part of the cooperation between the two countries. Since the February 24th invasion of Ukraine, China blames the United States and NATO for provoking Russia to invade the sovereign state of Ukraine.
In a political show of their alliance, Russia supported China after multiple visits to Taiwan, starting with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in which China accuses the United States of violating its One-China policy. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, has drawn parallels that display U.S. support for Ukraine and the political delegations visiting Taiwan, where both started to destabilize the current global order.
According to the Associated Press, a political analyst who studies the development of China and Russia's cooperation, said Russia wants to be able to demonstrate to the world that its military is still strong enough to engage elsewhere and flex its military might in spite of being engaged in the operation in Ukraine.

The military exercises extend a recurring series of war games between Russia and China, which all began in the east in 2021, including naval exercises and long-range bomber patrols of the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea.
A Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman stated this in regards to the wargames:
In an effort to demonstrate to the world the increased strategic partnership, Presidents Vladimir Putin (Russia) and Xi Jinping (China) have put aside their former rivalry and are now standing in solidarity against a common rival, the United States of America, according to Aljazeera.
Though in the past, the two countries disregarded the possibility of common alliances, Putin has stated recently that it could not be ruled out going forward, given the current state of world affairs. Putin has went on to elaborate on the sharing of sensitive military tech with China to significantly progress its defense capability.
