The President of Turkey was received well and in good spirit on August 8th and was thanked by Vladimir Putin for his assistance in securing an international trade deal which resumed the exportation of grain from Ukraine, as well as other goods and fertilizer from Russia.

The 3 ships that left port in Ukraine with grain during their meeting, were setting sail for Britain, Ireland, and Turkey as their final destinations.

"This is a very pressing problem for many countries, first and foremost the developing ones that are on the brink of big problems with food and fertilizer supply. The decision made with your direct participation is very important for all these countries," - Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

This does serve to benefit the rest of the world; However, there have been reports of other topics of conversation at the highly secretive meeting.

A report from the Ukrainian Government, which was shared by the Washington Post, has stated that Vladimir Putin is looking to make allies with Turkey, ahead of a planned EU embargo on Russian oil exports, utilizing Turkey's oil refineries, reservoirs, and terminals, as well as accounts for Russian banks to be able to navigate around financial sanctions. The Russian Government has not confirmed nor denied the report, nor were there any indications that Turkey, a member of NATO, has agreed to these proposals.

It is public knowledge of Russian and Turkish collaboration on big projects, such as the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, which is being built near Mersin, on the Mediterranean Sea. According to the contract, the construction of the power plant is to be completely financed by Russia during the building phase.

Putin also commended Erdogan on the TurkStream pipeline which has operated smoothly unlike the NordStream pipeline which has suffered massive reductions in volume, as well as agreeing to accept partial payments in Rubles for hydrocarbons from Turkey. Other industries discussed between the 2 leaders regarding cooperation include transportation, agriculture, finance, and further construction plans.

Another eventful result of this meeting was the agreement between the 2 leaders to stand in solidarity together in fighting terrorist organizations in Syria. Turkey has been in Syria in various parts since 2016, targeting the Kurdish PKK also known as the YPG militia, with Russia in opposition until now.

Unlike other countries in NATO, Turkey has stood by its commitment to not impose sanctions on Russia for its war in Ukraine. Erdogan, to this point, has navigated this narrow corridor with precision.
