Moroccan Prisoner Sentenced to Death In Donetsk, Is A Ukrainian Citizen

In the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Brahim Saadoun, a Moroccan born Ukrainian citizen, has been sentenced to death as a mercenary in the DPR. His father has spoken out against his charges, explaining his Ukrainian citizenship and that he voluntarily surrendered. Saadoun was found guilty and sentenced to death along with 2 Brits, Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner.

Brahim Saadoun obtained his Ukrainian citizenship in 2020 after serving in the military, which is a requirement to study aerospace at the university in Kyiv.

They were captured while fighting for Ukraine against Russia and the DPR.

A diplomatic source within the Moroccan government has stated that Saadoun had been imprisoned by an entity that was not recognized by the UN or the state of Morocco. Though Morocco has not openly condemned the Russian invasion, the Moroccan government has come out and said it supported the territorial integrity and nations of all UN state members.
