Iran's Revolutionary Guard Stands With Palestinians In Fight Against Israel

TEHRAN - Major General Hossein Salami, Head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, stated on August 6th amid the 2nd day of air strikes from the Israeli Defense Force, that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard stands with the Palestinians, and that they are not alone in their fight, in response to Israel's pre-emptive air strikes on the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) due to ongoing threats being made.

On its 2nd day, the Israeli Defense Force continues their military operation in Gaza. The death toll has risen to 24, which includes 6 children, sparking fears of another escalation in this Mideast conflict as the Islamic Jihad returns fire with rockets launched into Israeli cities.

Since before the start of the military operation, Israel has repeatedly stated that its sole target was that of the PIJ and was not targeting Hamas or any of its buildings or infrastructure. Though Hamas is also funded by Iran, like the PIJ, Hamas has a much greater amount of ground to lose if they were to get involved.

Though Hamas and the PIJ both have the same end game in regards to Israel and have many of the same financial sponsors which include Iran, Hamas is the bigger of the 2 and the main voice in Gaza. The PIJ is only 2nd to Hamas. At this point, though they are politically aligned against Israel, their mission statements are different. Hamas has been hesitant and has not joined the fight thus far. Their decision to stay out of the fight will most likely depend on how long Israel continues to strike in Gaza.

The first airstrikes on August the 5th claimed the life of the senior commander of the PIJ, which initiated retaliation from them.

Israel has stated that rockets fired into the town of Jabaliya, in northern Gaza, have claimed civilian lives, including children, according to the Associated Press. An investigation was conducted by the Israeli military, and they concluded a misfired rocket from the Islamic Jihad was the cause.

In Iran, on the Revolutionary Guard's website, Sepah News, this was stated:

"Today, all the anti-Zionist jihadi capabilities are on the scene in a united formation working to liberate Jerusalem and uphold the rights of the Palestinian people,..." - Major General Hossein Salami, Iranian Revolutionary Guard

and at a meeting with a leader of the Islamic Jihad who was visiting Iran, Ziad al-Nakhala, he stated this:

"We are with you on this path until the end, and let Palestine and the Palestinians know that they are not alone..." - Major General Hossein Salami, Iranian Revolutionary Guard

Salami also emphasized that Palestine's response to the IDF begins a new chapter, and Israel will pay a heavy price for what he sees as a crime. Condemnation of the attack was also strongly stated by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stating it was a brutal attack on Gaza.

Iran is one of the primary financial sponsors of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and has given them 10s if not 100s of millions of dollars to finance their campaigns against Israel. Iran has also been accused by Israel of weapons smuggling into Gaza to Palestinian militant groups, with the PIJ being 1. In March 2021, Israel intercepted 2 drones that were loaded down with weapons bound for Gaza.
