FLORIDA - In an ongoing investigation into whether the 45th President of the United States, Donald J Trump took classified documents from the White House, upon his exit, The FBI searched his Mar-A-Lago residence, setting a new precedent for former leadership in the United States, in regards to law enforcement. The search of his home comes amid an investigation, conducted by a grand jury, trying to decide if the former President had made any efforts attempting to overturn the results of the last presidential election, adding even more legal peril for him as he begins building the foundation for another run in 2024. Justice Department Spokesperson declined to comment regarding the search of Donald J Trump's home, and the White House states it did not have prior knowledge that it will be conducted. In a statement on Fox News on August 8th, Eric Trump, Donald J Trump's son, stated that he had been with his father all day and the search occurred on the basis that "the National Archives wanted to corroborate whether or not Donald Trump had any documents in his possession." When asked how the documents ended up in Florida, Eric Trump responded stating the documents were in boxes that got moved out of the White House during six hours on Inauguration Day, as the family of President-Elect Biden was moving into the White House. Eric stated that his father always kept news clippings, and there were boxes because he was moving. As the search was being conducted, Donald J Trump had this to say on social media: Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, who is a 2024 potential presidential candidate, stated on Twitter that this search was "an escalation in the weaponization of government agencies. House minority leader Kevin McCarthy also on Twitter, stated that "the Justice Department has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization." He went on to say that when the Republicans win control of the House, they would investigate the Justice Department. A Vanderbilt University presidential historian professor, Thomas Schwartz, said that even including The Watergate Scandal, there were no precedents regarding FBI raids on former presidents. The former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said that he had "deep concern" regarding the FBI raid on Donald Trump's home in Florida and said that 'partisanship' on the part of the Department of Justice should be addressed. Pence said that FBI agents 'were found to be acting on political motivation' during Donald Trump's presidency. "Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately," Pence added. "Yesterday's action undermines public confidence in our system of justice and Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately." "After years where FBI agents were found to be acting on political motivation during our administration, the appearance of continued partisanship by the Justice Department must be addressed." "I share the deep concern of millions of Americans over the unprecedented search of the personal residence of President Trump. No former President of the United States has ever been subject to a raid of their personal residence in American history."
